“Observation” as “gathering with the eye”
“Listening” as “gathering with the ear”
We are looking through assumptions because they affect the way we see things, the way we experience them, and the things we want to do.
“When looking at society or looking at another person, what you see depends on your assumptions, and you will get an emotional reaction from that person which enters you and affects the way you see.”
The problem with introspection is that when you look at your mind, you don’t consider your assumptions.
“I am suggesting, however, that thought is a system belonging to the whole culture and society, evolving over history, and it creates the image of an individual who is supposed to be the source of thought.”
